SWAT Team & Volunteers

SWAT Team at Oakton Elementary?  Yes!  Our Students Wild About Technology (SWAT) Team is made up of children in grades 4, 5, and 6.  Armed with official badges and led by our wonderful school-based technology specialist, Mrs. Leslie Borkenhagen, the SWAT Team has 2 main objectives:

1. Students will serve as resources in the school for various technological needs.

2. Students will develop valuable social and communication skills when working with teachers and peers. Students who participate in the program become a role model to their peers and serve as an informal technical expert, available to support friends and family.

SWAT members are assigned to either a mobile lab (laptop cart) or the stationary computer lab.  They help to ensure the labs are in good, working order for teachers and students and report any problems to Mrs. Borkenhagen.  They also meet twice a month with Mrs. B to be trained on various technology related skills so that they can provide help to their teachers and peers as needed.

We adore our volunteers!

Today we held our annual Volunteer Tea.  Volunteers were treated to tea sandwiches, fruit, cookies, and raffle items.  This event was just a small token to show how much we appreciate all that our volunteers do for our school.  From stuffing Tuesday folders and making copies to painting murals, organizing celebrations, reading with students, and leading math enrichment groups, Oakton families give of their time generously to help make our school the best it can be. OES is a very special place because of our home/school partnership and together we have created a wonderful place for students to learn and thrive.  Thank you!
