Mrs. Campbell’s 2nd grade class recently participated in the 4-H Embryology Program – Beginning of Life Curriculum.  This project was funded through a grant provided by Exxon Mobil.

This extension project brought to life many of our science SOL strands.  Students learned responsibility by caring for these adorable creatures. Through this hands-on experience, students observed the developmental processes and stages of growth.

The students were involved with following the calendar and monitoring the temperature and conditions in the incubator. They observed the chicks peeping from their eggs and hatching. The precious chicks lived in Mrs. Campbell’s classroom for 2 weeks and the students had a wonderful experience observing their growth and change over time. The chicks were shared with many classrooms throughout the school and now reside at a nearby farm.
