History came alive at OES this week as our 4th graders held their annual “Colonial Day.” This year’s event was headlined by the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Students enjoyed hearing the music and learning about the instruments and life as a soldier.
In their classrooms, students rotated through various learning stations:
- Home Life – students made candles, silhouettes, and cross-stitch pieces
- Tavern – students played colonial games
- Schoolroom/Apprenticeship – students made hornbooks, stencils, and tin punched designs
The day was capped off with the students singing colonial songs and performing the Virginia Reel! Thank you to the parent volunteers, our 4th grade teachers, and our PE & music teachers for all the planning and preparation they put in to make this day special! -cg
