Big Week at OES!

Oakton Elementary School was honored at the School Board meeting on Thursday evening for earning the 2011 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence.  Mr. Eck and I couldn’t be more proud of this accomplishment.  This award is due to the hard work and dedication of our staff, students, and parents.  Thank you!

The Rotary Club of Vienna presented dictionaries to OES 3rd graders.  The students practiced finding words using the guide words and demonstrated how they will use their new gift to improve their vocabulary and writing.  Thank you to Mr. Kurt Frogale from Sandy Spring Bank for taking time out of his busy day to make this special donation to our 3rd grade students!

105 kindergarten students and 1 White House! On Wednesday, our kindergarten students had the wonderful opportunity to tour the East Wing of The White House.  The students loved traveling to D.C. and taking in the local sights such as the Washington Monument, the Old Executive Office Building,  and the Lincoln Memorial. But of course, the highlight was The White House.  Students learned about the blue, red, and green rooms and talked about what they would serve for dinner in the grand dining room 🙂  Thank you to Mrs. Novielli (kindergarten parent) for making this trip of a lifetime come true for our children. -cg
